Seifuan at the Huntington Library and Gardens

Urasenke Tankokai Los Angeles Association offered a Chado experience for students at Seifuan at the Huntington Library and Gardens. A total of 10 students from the University of California Los Angeles participated on November 13 and 20. 15 students from the University of Southern California participated on November 15.

Students were able to immerse themselves in a beautiful Japanese garden setting and enjoy specially selected odougu, experience spirituality and togetherness through observation and participation of sharing a bowl of tea.

A kakejikuHibi arata mata hi arata“ meaning, “Today is a new day and tomorrow is a new day” hung in the alcove and was displayed with a Hagi ware incense holder with a dragon motif.  Alongside was a Seiji, blue celadon vase in the shape of a bamboo shoot by Ito, Tozan with seasonal flowers picked from the Huntington Library Gardens.

Tea and sweets from Japan were served to the students in hopes for a new entrance into greater learning today and tomorrow.
